Maximise Your PPC Ads with the Right Keywords. Tips to Make Sure You Use the Best Keyword Phrases

Effective keyword research will ensure that your PPC ads appear on the top slot in the sponsored links of any search engine results page. While having 10 or 20 well-chosen keywords may bring most of the traffic, it does not cover all possible niches.

Here are some tips to make sure you use the best keyword phrases for PPC ads:

  • Use free keyword research tools. There are special tools on the web that help you find great keywords. Some of the free keyword research tools that work well are Google Keyword Tool, Wordtracker, Metacrawler, Keyword Discovery, Yahoo Search Marketing and SEO Book Keyword Research Tool.
  • See who is competing for the best keywords. Go to a search engine like Google and do a search for the keywords in your niche. See which other businesses are already dominating that space. If you realize that a search term is far too competitive and may drain your entire PPC ad budget, expand your search term into a long-tail keyword. Keep in mind relevance and the relationship of the word to your business.
  • Search engine keyword phrases. Combine the best keywords and create search terms. Use different combinations, and use plurals as well as singulars. Make sure the terms are closely related, so you’ll get the desired results. Group top level keywords with other related search terms.
  • Refine your list. From your shortlist remove any keywords that are not relevant to your website or keywords that you don't have enough content to support. Remember it is always possible to go back and add content and keywords later as well.
  • Use compound, separated, hyphenated, and merged keywords. Users often search trying multiple variations of words and spellings looking for the right fit. To be sure you are not missing out on any terms or phrases research compound, separated, hyphenated, and merged keywords. Example, ‘lifesize’, ‘life-size’ and ‘life size’.
  • You can even bid on your own / your company name. Enter a business / brand name into a search engine window. You’ll be surprised at how many organizations other than the one you searched for will show up with PPC ads! Your brand name should be your space on the Internet, so don’t let a competitor get in there by bidding a few cents on a keyword.

Make sure your PPC campaign stays as effective and efficient as possible by tracking keyword and keyphrase successes (and losses); which ads bring in the most traffic (and which don’t) and conversion rates. Contact us to manage your PPC advertising so you use your budget wisely and get the best results (traffic and conversion).

The use of smart phones has given rise to mobile searching.  Not only should a website owner market using these new technologies, but they need to understand the users of these technologies.  This knowledge will allow the Internet marketer to be most successful within this segment of the market.

Social media continues to show growth for the Internet marketer.  There is real value in making the social media platforms a marketing target for the coming year.

SEO search refinement will continue to offer additional competitive edge for website marketing campaigns.  Individual search engines will continue to gain market share throughout the coming year opening new opportunities other than Google for the Internet marketer.

More competition will require a much more aggressive marketing strategy over the next year.  Budgeting additional dollars for advertising can prove to be beneficial is expanding your business.

Customer expectations are also increasing at a high rate.   One of the areas that is getting some extra attention by the customer is the time between order and delivery.  They purchase a product today and want to receive it as soon as possible.

Unless you can afford to have your own full-time staff working to stay ahead of the competition, it would be wise to out-source it to a competent company.

Getting To the Top With SEO & SEM

Website marketing begins with the site development.  But marketing does not stop when the website is complete.  To be successful and get to the top, you will have to be sure that your website maintains a great position with the major search engines...with Google leading the pack.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) are the application of strategies to attain the best position of your website for search rank pages.

For the best results quickly, you should start by not using a new web domain but to consider using an established web domain even if this means you have to purchase it, because search engines rank sites with a long time presence on the web with more importance.

There will be some situations where you will have to use a new domain name. In time you can build the ranking up, but this could take a weeks or months to accomplish.  You can, in the meantime, use Pay-per-Click and, if possible, video for faster recognition.

It is best when some keywords can be included in the domain name.  This allows the search engines to expect the site will provide information on the topic searched for.  Knowing this, one can understand the importance of selecting a domain name.

Keep your site visitors in mind in addition to the search engines when developing your SEO & SEM strategy.  The very best results are obtained when you think like your target market.    In order to think the way they will, you need to fully understand who your target market is, what is of interest to them, why would they be interested, when they are interested, and where they are located.  Learning your target market will require some investment of time on your part.

The search engines also use the keywords on your website to rank your site.  Selecting strong keywords and keyword phrases WHICH ARE REPEATED IN THE PAGE TEXT, becomes the backbone of SEO for your site for both your target market and the search engines.

Do You Need Search Engine Marketing (SEM)?

If you need online marketing, you need Search Engine Marketing(SEM).   Search Engine Marketing, my vocabulary, covers all the tools you will need for online marketing.  It is the marketing that will make you a success or failure in online marketing.

Originally there were two basic areas of search engine marketing

•    PPC (Pay Per Click)
•    SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Focusing on these two internet marketing tools put you ahead in the business of online marketing. But now you need to know more.

What is SEM?

It is a rather broad term referring to the multiple ways of marketing a site to all of the search engines available on the internet.    If you have a business with a website, you will need search engine marketing.

Search engine marketing as a lot of different specific area and identifying the areas you need to use for your online business can be difficult.  An expert in this field can provide you with guidance and assistance so that your work is focused on areas you need to focus on and not on other things that would have little benefit for your marketing efforts.

The purpose of search engine marketing is to get as much targeted traffic as possible to your website.

The primary components of search engine marketing still include pay-per-click marketing and search engine optimization, but now include social media marketing, email marketing, PR and press, video, and article marketing (or blogging).  The search engines are attracted to each of these methods and proper use of them with result in higher ranking for your site on them.  There are specific rules of how to implement each of these into your online business for lasting results.

Most websites will use all three of these components of search engine marketing at one time or another.   The goal with search engine marketing is to obtain high search engine ranking and then measure the traffic and sales flow into your online business.  We cover most everything in our Wisdom Book.

And here is our lastest White Paper and Free Seminar.

Where Is Internet Marketing Going? Why a Business Should Care: Competition and Survival.

Over the past 10 years or so we have seen the online market place transform into a vibrant area of business.  The growth has been astronomical with new targets and goals surpassed each year.

In fact, there has never been a business concept that has experienced such substantial success and expansion.

But, and it is a big but, how does a buiness leadership keep up with the competition?

Target_marketing
Just where internet marketing will go from this point forward is yet to be seen.   As the digitalization of our world continues, digital and internet marketing remains bright for the future. As the internet users become more sophisticated, it will be imperative that a business's internet marketing keep pace with this sophistication.

Some of the technologies used in internet marketing are already beginning to be replaced with new technology.   Failure to keep up with these continual changes will be the reason for many business failures in the future.  Personal email is quickly being replaced with various social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.  If you don’t include these new avenues of internet marketing in your internet marketing strategies, you just may find you and your business have been left behind in the dust of internet marketing.

With the growing concerns of spam, identity theft and phishing scams in regards to email marketing, you would think that many users are switching to the other forms of connecting with various social media technology.  You would be right that other forms are growing, but they are not replacing email marketing; they are simply adding to the power of email marketing, which remains the most powerful marketing media...when done right.

Pay-per-click advertising and SEO (search engine optimization) remain strong models of internet marketing.  SEO will be needed as long as there are search engines in our world for users to search the internet. SEO does not offer a lot of opportunities for fraud, making it a great and safe way to generate website traffic.   Pay-per-click does have some opportunity for fraud and, as a result, some changes or modifications may occur to this form of marketing in the future.

It is expected article writing will continue to be a strong internet marketing concept as we move forward into the future of internet marketing.
In addition to SEO, Pay-per-click, email marketing, and article writing, there very easily could be new platforms in the future of internet marketing that are not available today.

But what I see as the biggest problem for businesses is the leadership mindset and how businesses are going to keep up with the changes.  Some leaders in their field are always out there ready to dominate a market segment faster than lightning.  As an International Digital Marketing Consultancy, we find it a full-time job to keep up and to transfer that knowledge in pratical terms to our clients.

If you think would would like to beat out your competitors, you probably want to thumb through our Wisdom Book.

Landing Matters for Conversion

Conversion_architecture
The first page of your website to which clients and prospects are directed when they click on an ad, email link, pay-per-click (PPC), or a search result, is your landing page.  This page is where your visitors take a few seconds to get their first impression of your business.  The design and the look-and-feel of this landing page matter big time.

You can spend a lot of money to generate traffic to your site, but if your landing page is not designed to convert the traffic to action for the financial good of your business, your time and money are wasted.

A landing page that has "conversion architecture" with a great design and includes a compelling offer can successful create the conversions you seek.  Creating a good landing page is done through experience and testing.  The landing page should navigate easily (or not at all) and the offer needs to be obvious to the visitor as they spend only seconds scanning your page.  You do not want your visitor to have to search for the offer.   The basic message or content is needed for the search engines, but your visitors will only be scanning and glancing.  The proper use of attention getters such as bullets, headlines, images, etc are natural eye catchers for the visitor.

Creating a good landing page is more than just good wording on a white page.  Some creativity is essential in building a compelling landing page.   There is an art involved with landing page development, and without it, you will not have an effective landing page.

The ultimate goal of your landing page is to gain conversions.  That is, you want your traffic to be compelled to take your offer, make that purchase, sign up for your newsletter, or download a white paper.  You only have a few seconds for each visitor to get this action before he/she is mosing on down the search trail to another website.

Your visitors landing matters to your profitability and financial success, so visit, carefully evaluate, and test your landing page to see just how creative and compelling it is for a visitor.
